Ayurveda sees life as a harmonious combination of body, senses, mind and soul. Whatever be the duration of existence, it has life in it only when these factors are in synchrony. Threat to life is not only from external factors but also conflicts that arise from within. Ayurveda is a comprehensive encyclopedia about life but currently it is known as a medical treatise. Naturally with a deeper understanding about life Ayurvedic texts deal with health and disease only after describing components and stages of an accomplished life. Swasthavrtta or preventive medicine travels through pillars of life, instructions to sustain healthy body, specific guidelines to protect the senses ( sensory and motor) and shielding the vulnerable mind.

Dinacharya or daily routine - dawn to dusk activity chart, begining from bowel evacuation till going to bed with a pleasant mind. ( in line with diurnal variations)
Rtucharya - Seasonal routine - adapting to environmental and climatic variations with specific modications in diet and lifestyle.
Physical health - not controlling the thirteen natural urges like urination, defecation, cough, yawning etc.,
Mental Health - emphasis on suppressing mental urges like - jealousy, hatred, resentment etc.
Sensory & motor health - avoiding excessive or erroneous exposure to strong light, sound, abuse of legs or hands / adventurism etc.
Spritual orientation that addresses the soul - realizing the purpose of life, rightful thinking and prevention of intellectual errors ( violence, stealing, and adharma stipulated in the scriptures etc.) contemplating laid down paths towards liberation.
Diet guidelines - inclusion of six tastes, regulated food intake in accordance with individual's agni or digestion/metabolism, significance of food preparation, order of eating and about wholesome food etc.
Lifestyle - Moderatiojn in exercise, physical activity, sleep - day sleep, sexual life etc.

The basis for all these begins with introduction to Prakriti or constitution at the first chapter, thus implying the need for shaping one's life and responding to situations based on one's own Prakriti. The three pillars of life that is food, sleep and balance between sexual life and abstinence are exclusively explained to ensure an intact harmony between components of life .
